Sinn celebrates its 65th anniversary with the 140 A S Anniversary, a limited-edition chronograph produced in 300 pieces.
The new model continues the history of the 140 series, known for its association with spaceflight, while incorporating the brand’s SZ01 chronograph movement and a range of technical features designed to enhance reliability in demanding conditions.
The 140 series occupies a distinctive place in Sinn’s history. During the D1 Spacelab mission in 1985, physicist and astronaut Reinhard Furrer wore a Sinn 140 S equipped with the Lemania 5100 movement.
The watch became associated with the mission’s demonstration of the practicality of a self-winding mechanical chronograph in the weightless environment of space.
The 140 A S Anniversary builds on this heritage with the Sinn SZ01 self-winding chronograph movement, based on the architecture of the ETA 7750.
Its defining feature is a centrally mounted 60-minute chronograph hand with jumping minutes. Unlike conventional arrangements with a separate minute counter, this configuration allows elapsed minutes to be read directly from the centre of the dial.
A minute scale extending around the dial further supports the rapid reading of measured times.
The chronograph is complemented by a subsidiary seconds display, a date indication and a central chronograph seconds hand.
The yellow chronograph hands provide a clear visual distinction from the other indications, while luminous coating on the chronograph hands, hour and minute hands and dial indices supports legibility in low-light conditions.
An interior pilot’s bezel, equipped with a luminous key mark, provides an additional timing function.
The SZ01 operates at 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour, contains 28 jewels and incorporates a stop-seconds function. It is also anti-magnetic in accordance with DIN 8309.
The stainless steel case measures 44 mm in diameter and 15.5 mm in thickness, with a lug width of 22 mm.
Its combination of polished and satinised surfaces gives the watch a varied finish, while the black hard coating, applied over a TEGIMENT-treated surface, is designed to improve scratch resistance. The matte black dial maintains the functional appearance associated with the 140 series, with contrasting chronograph indications arranged for clear legibility.
Sinn equips the watch with a sapphire crystal featuring anti-reflective coating on both sides and a screw-fastened case back.
Water resistance is rated to 10 bar, equivalent to a nominal pressure rating of 100 metres / 330 feet.
Additional technical measures address reliability in changing environmental conditions. Sinn’s Ar-Dehumidifying Technology reduces moisture inside the case, helping to prevent fogging and preserve functional reliability.
The crown and push-pieces incorporate the D3-System, designed to improve their sealing against external influences. Together with the TEGIMENT-based black hard coating, these features reflect the engineering-led approach that characterises the brand.
The 140 A S Anniversary is supplied with a black-coated stainless steel bracelet with a satinised finish and an additional black-and-yellow cowhide leather strap.
The contrasting yellow accents of the leather strap echo the chronograph hands, offering an alternative to the more uniform appearance of the bracelet.
The Sinn 140 A S Anniversary is limited to 300 pieces and is priced at €5,490. sinn.de
