A MASTERED SOFTNESS

Already celebrated for its chronometric performance, this creation returns in a new rose gold interpretation, where a subtle orchestration of materials, colors and light lends it a warmer presence.

With the Chronomètre FB 3SPC.2-1, Ferdinand Berthoud introduces a rose gold interpretation of the model that received the Chronometry Prize at the 2023 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. While the manufacture movement remains unchanged, this new reference adopts a palette of materials and colors that gives it a warmer presence. Unveiled to coincide with the opening of Art in Time Tokyo, it joins the existing white gold version.

This evolution is first and foremost the result of a carefully considered composition. The imposing 42.30mm rose gold case, the sandblasted nickel silver movement and the beige tones of the flange and small seconds display create a remarkably soft visual harmony. A few touches of blue are enough to guide the eye. The central hour and minute hands, the power reserve indicator at 2 o’clock, the small seconds at 6 o’clock and even selected screws introduce just enough contrast to make each display instantly legible without disturbing the overall balance. The hand-wound FB-SPC calibre retains the features that have earned its reputation: a hand-crafted cylindrical balance spring, a variable-inertia balance wheel, individual COSC chronometer certification and a substantial 72-hour power reserve. This architecture, already acclaimed for its chronometric performance, reminds us that sometimes a new balance of materials, colors and light is all it takes to reveal an unexpected facet of the very same creation.
