Introducing: The Tudor Black Bay 54 “Blue”

What We Know

Today, Tudor gives the mid-size Black Bay 54 dive watch a new “sapphire blue” colorway. It marks the third colorway that the model has received since its original black-dialed launch back in 2023, following that very unique, frosted “Lagoon Blue” iteration from last year with the polished bezel insert. Inspired by Tudor’s original 7922 diver, the Black Bay 54 marks a smaller option in the Black Bay line for those with smaller wrists or for those who prefer more vintage proportions in the modern Tudor catalog.

As this is simply a new colorway, most specs remain identical to its predecessors, including that smaller 37mm stainless steel case, with a thickness of 11.2mm and a lug-to-lug of 46mm. While some might have expected a blue livery that matches that of the Black Bay 58, it’s a quite different shade of blue that evokes the saturated blue of the Pelagos 42 more than it does the Black Bay 58. For the 60-click unidirectional bezel, a sapphire-blue aluminum bezel is paired with silver markings and a lumed pip at 12 o’clock. On the subtly domed dial, the blue color is paired with a sunray-brushed finish that adds a dynamic layer, while applied metallic indices are filled with white Grade A Super-LumiNova.

Inside the watch is the COSC-certified MT5400 caliber, offering a power reserve of 70 hours, a beat rate of 28,800 VpH, and a silicon balance spring. The new Tudor Black Bay 54 “Blue” is available with either a three-link stainless steel bracelet with faux rivets or a cut-to-size rubber strap. Both come with the brand’s “T-fit” clasp for a five-position, tool-free microadjust. The bracelet model is priced at $4,725, and the rubber strap model is priced at $4,475.

What We Think

BB54 Blue Rubber Strap Lifestyle

New dial colors are something we’re used to seeing every year, and I think the Black Bay 54 was long overdue for another, more neutral variant than the polarizing, unconventional Lagoon Blue dial from 2025. This blue is certainly an attractive pairing with the compact diver, though it certainly feels a little lighthearted, evoking the same feeling as the burgundy given to the Black Bay 58 last year. An in-person look this week will surely confirm final opinions, but in the meantime, I think it’ll be a popular addition to the catalog that offers something clean for collectors aside from the bold, almost fashion-forward Lagoon Blue and the truly vintage-inspired gilt look that the original black dial lent to the Black Bay 54.
