What We Know
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water (sorry), California-based retailer Topper Jewelers has released a limited edition take on Doxa’s recently refreshed SUB 200 T.Graph II. This crispy, white-dialed variant comes fast on the heels of Doxa’s own re-issue of its legendary dive chronograph. The name “Great White” obviously references the dial color, but is also a tribute to the Bay Area’s notorious offshore aquatic apex predators, Carcharodon carcharias, the great white shark.
To refresh your memory, the T.Graph was Doxa’s first dive chronograph, originally released in 1969 with three dial color versions—Professional (orange), Sharkhunter (black), and Searambler (silver). Horological historians tend to agree that only 300 of each color were made, making it a rare and coveted watch for vintage collectors and Doxaphiles.
While a limited-edition version was released back in 2017, including a solid-gold variant, Doxa finally rewarded fans last month with the non-limited T.Graph II. This new evolution is a faithful interpretation, but updated with a slimmer case, automatic movement, and a new (for the chronograph) colorway—the Caribbean (blue). Now, in limited numbers, comes the further-evolved “Great White” from Doxa retailer Topper, based in Burlingame, California.
This isn’t Topper’s first foray into Doxa limited editions. Two years ago, the company collaborated with the Swiss brand on a “Great White” SUB 300 that sported a pearly white dial with deep blue hour and bezel markings and hands. And in 2025 came the SUB 250 GMT “Great White.” The T.Graph II Great White follows suit, but adds some additional color in the way of alternating orange arcs on the chronograph’s minute register. As with the SUB 300 and SUB 250 GMT LEs, it also differentiates by deleting the date window for a more minimalist dial on this very maximalist watch. Take this one on a night dive, and the fully luminescent dial, which glows a pale blue, is revealed.
Besides the Topper-spec’d changes to its appearance, the watch remains a T.Graph II. Its 200-meter water-resistant stainless steel case is a burly 42mm in diameter and 14.6mm thick, and is fitted to a beads-of-rice bracelet with ratcheting dive extension. Inside, the movement is a Selitta SW510 self-winding caliber. While the date window is removed here, a soft click at midnight gives away that the movement retains the function behind the scenes, perhaps annoying purists. [Edit Note: Doxa has confirmed that the production spec for the movement will delete the date click with a true no-date execution].
The “Great White” Topper Edition is available now, for a price of $4,690, in a (very) limited edition of just 100 pieces. It arrives in a specially branded commemorative box, along with a navy blue FKM rubber strap. According to Topper, a portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Greater Farallones Association, a nonprofit organization that works to restore and enhance coastal habitats while protecting marine life in Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, an area of 3,295 square miles off the northern and central California coast.
What We Think
As an owner of the original 1969 T.Graph (I have the Sharkhunter), I view any update to this legend with a critical eye. Having handled the T.Graph II a few times, I am pleased to give my blessing to what is a worthy evolution, with the slightly slimmer case, automatic movement, and screw-down crown. The “Great White” is a greater divergence from its predecessors, with the expansive white lume dial and the lack of a date window.
I’m a big fan of lume dial divers, and the pale blue glow is a nice change from the typical green of so many others. One surprising flaw, however, with most lume dial watches is their relative illegibility in the dark once they start to fade, since the lumed hands and hour markers tend to merge together, resulting in a sort of glowing disc. On a night dive (highly recommended, 10/10), this likely wouldn’t be a factor, since you’d never find yourself without a dive torch (right?), but for jetlag time checks in a dark hotel room, it could be more problematic.
Back in 2009, I took part in an open water swim across San Francisco Bay from Alcatraz, wearing a Doxa on my wrist. I distinctly remember pausing in the middle of the Bay, as the sun rose to the East, contemplating what was swimming around under my dangling legs. Great white sharks have been known to venture into the Bay from time to time, perhaps drawn by the sea lions that frolic there. Seeing the engraved likeness of this charismatic and misunderstood predator on the caseback of the “Great White” Topper Edition T.Graph II brings the memories flooding back in a fitting full circle. This is a well-executed limited edition of a cult favorite dive chronograph and, as with its namesake, I’m glad it exists.
