Hublot expands its sapphire collection with the new Big Bang Sapphire Sky Blue, a limited edition that combines the brand’s expertise in coloured sapphire with its in-house Meca-10 movement.
Produced in 100 pieces, the new model features a transparent sky-blue sapphire case that highlights the distinctive architecture of the manufacture calibre while reinforcing Hublot’s long-standing focus on innovative materials.
Since introducing the Meca-10 in 2016, Hublot has taken a different approach to movement design by placing the mechanics at the centre of the watch’s identity.
Rather than concealing the movement beneath the dial, the calibre adopts an open, structural architecture inspired by mechanical construction systems, allowing its operation to become an integral part of the visual experience.
The hand-wound HUB1201 manufacture calibre is composed of 223 components and 24 jewels, operating at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour).
Its two parallel mainspring barrels deliver an impressive 10-day (240-hour) power reserve, while an unconventional rack-and-pinion mechanism with sliding racks moving along the 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock axis creates the signature dual power reserve display that has become one of the defining features of the Meca-10 family.
The movement is housed in a fully polished 44 mm sapphire crystal case, whose transparency extends to the matching bezel, secured by Hublot’s signature H-shaped titanium screws.
The sapphire construction allows light to penetrate the watch from every angle, accentuating the skeletonised movement and the matte sky-blue bridges that visually blend into the overall design. The watch is protected by sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment and is water-resistant to 5 ATM (50 metres / 165 feet).
The openworked dial continues the monochromatic theme with a matte sky-blue skeletonised construction that leaves the mechanics fully visible while ensuring excellent legibility.
Through the sapphire caseback, the intricate finishing and three-dimensional architecture of the calibre can be appreciated in full.
The watch is completed by a structured sky-blue rubber strap fitted with Hublot’s One-Click interchangeable strap system and secured by a titanium deployant clasp.
