What We Know
Zach Starr Weiss has been a fixture of the watch media landscape for nearly 15 years as the co-founder of Worn & Wound and Windup Watch Fair, so if you know his work, you also know that his tastes have been carefully honed over a decade of handling watches. As such, today’s introduction of his new brand, OraOrea, should be an exciting day for everyone who has followed his work and continued impact on the watch space.

OraOrea is launching with one new model, the Coriolis Pointer Date, in three different dial sunburst variations: Skyline Silver, Venetus Teal, and Rhodium Black. The watch leans heavily on complex dial design, with a small central date hand that points at a brand-new in-house numeral set, a large hour hand pointing at laser-cut, CNC-detailed, hand-polished applied indexes for the hours (with Roman numerals), and a longer minute hand pointing to its own Roman numeral track. In between those numerals are small applied dot indices.

The watch features a largely brushed stainless steel case (with polished angles on the edges) that measures 38.5mm wide and 45mm lug-to-lug, with 9.3mm thick, not counting the domed sapphire with double-sided anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coating. The watch features a domed bezel as well, adding to the complex case shape.

The watch doesn’t feature a screw-down crown, but it still has 100m of water resistance. Overall, the watch features a lot of depth and an interesting dial structure with complex finishing. Inside the case is the Sellita SW386-1, a new version of the SW300 that was introduced at the end of 2025, with high-grade finishing, regulated for accuracy and reliability. With that finishing, what Sellita calls their D4 decoration, the movement features perlage on the plates and bridges, blued screws, snailed edges, rhodium plating, and a customized rotor bearing OraOrea’s logo-glyph.

If you’re interested in the new OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date, the initial offering is 100 of each colorway in the “OraOrea Founder’s Edition”, available for preorder now. The price is $3,950, and watches will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2026.

What We Think

It’s always interesting to learn what our colleagues find interesting if they can make anything they want. Good pointer dates are often the start of any watch collector’s journey into the horological world, and they’re also vastly underrepresented on the market today. One person might say they look a bit busy, but I think that’s a charming part of the pointer date.
OraOrea has done a great job creating a complex display that puts a lot of focus on thoughtful, quality dial finishing. The case measurements look quite reasonable and numbers that will be comfortable for a wide range of wearers. It’s also exciting to see the first use of a new movement (one that I didn’t even know existed), which shows the time, effort, and awareness brought to the table by someone so well-connected in the industry.
