What We Know
Each year, Panerai offers a special experience for its top collectors, available only to those who buy the year’s “experience watch.” For the first time, the experience is available to buyers who pick up a set of watches sold together. By buying these two Radiomir releases, customers will also be brought on a trip through Panerai’s Italian history, tracing from their century-old boutique in Florence, then on to the historical meeting grounds and diving locales, a diving trip at the COMSUBIN base (Divers and Raiders Group Command “Teseo Tesei”), and a yacht tour along the Ligurian coastline.

That’s all well and good (and honestly sounds quite fun), but we’re a watch website, so let’s talk about the watches. The PAM01729 and PAM01730 build on the brand’s 47mm Radiomir case, one in bronze (15.63mm thick) and the other in Platinumtech (a harder platinum alloy, 16.57mm thick). Each has a domed plexiglass crystal and display caseback; the bronze model uses a titanium caseback ring, and the Platinumtech model uses the same material as the case.

The two watches differ in more than case material. PAM01730 in Platinumtech features a sandwich-style circular sun-brushed black dial, with branding largely minimized and the focus on the beige-tinted Super-LumiNova and blued hands. PAM01729, on the other hand, goes even more low-key with a single-layer black grainy dial with Roman and Arabic numerals (a California dial, as it’s called), with bar indexes and a minute track.
Inside the cases are two different movements, each running at 21,600 vph and with 72 hours of power reserve. The bronze version features a more traditional 3/4-plate style P.3000 caliber, while the PAM01730 has a modified version of the P.3001/10 movement, which has been skeletonized while still showing the power reserve of the movement. It’s a look Panerai hasn’t used many times before, and as far as I can tell, it’s the first time this movement has been rendered without GMT.

There are only 30 sets available to potential buyers, but the price for the watches (and the experience that comes with it) is substantial: $163,200. If you’re interested, you can pick up the watches at Panerai retailers and boutiques. Just make sure you have September 15-18, 2026, blocked off on your calendar.

What We Think

From the dial side, the PAM01729 with a bronze case is more to my taste. While I like the sandwich dial of the Platinumtech version, at the moment, I just like the look of these old California dials. But the rear of the PAM01730 is pretty fascinating. I missed the movement’s debut in 2014, which was before my time in watches, and now they’ve ditched the date and GMT to bring the movement down from 207 components to 161 (though they didn’t rename it).
Sure, it’s not an independent-level of construction or finishing, and it’s not the only skeletonized watch in the brand’s lineup. But while other releases have taken a hyper-modern tack, the Caliber P.3001/10 works really well to show Panerai pushing the bounds of skeletonization in a way that blends the vintage aesthetic on the front. The elephant in the room, however, is the price. The price of the original P.3001/10 caliber in a gold case in 2014 was around €25,000, and a Radiomir Bronzo is $20,000.
