Panerai marks the centenary of its historic Florence boutique with Immersion, an exhibition exploring the brand’s identity through the environments, challenges, and technical demands that have shaped its watches.

Hosted at the Museo Marino Marini, the exhibition runs from 10 to 19 September 2026, opening to the general public on 11 September.

The event returns Panerai to the Museo Marino Marini a decade after its 2016 “Dive Into Time” exhibition. Set within the museum’s crypt, “Immersion” is conceived as a journey from the Florentine origins of the family business to the depths of the ocean and onward into contemporary exploration.

The story begins in Florence in 1860, when the Panerai family established two parallel operations: the “Orologeria Svizzera” boutique, which became a hub for local watchmaking culture, and G. Panerai & Figlio, which developed precision instruments for the Royal Italian Navy.

The exhibition uses this dual identity to highlight the core requirements that defined Panerai’s engineering—legibility in total darkness, extreme water resistance, rugged construction, and extended power reserves.

From the early family workshop, visitors pass into an environment evoking a secret military workshop before descending into an immersive underwater setting. Here, pressure, darkness, and silence recreate the harsh conditions under which Panerai’s professional instruments had to perform.

The narrative then surfaces into modern forms of adventure. Dedicated environments evoke frozen lakes, polar ice, jungle humidity, and open ocean waves, illustrating how historical survival requirements apply to modern expeditions. In these settings, the watch is presented not merely as a timekeeper, but as essential equipment for demanding environments.

The final section focuses on the open sea, bridging the worlds of competitive sailing and navigation. Vintage nautical instruments sit alongside contemporary chronographs, connecting high-performance sailing with long-distance exploration.

Through this thematic arc, “Immersion” grounds Panerai’s identity in its core functional pillars: robustness, luminescence, autonomy, and water resistance. Rather than serving as a static retrospective, the exhibition directly connects the brand’s Florentine heritage with its modern perspective on adventure.
