Hanhart introduces the MAD Preventor HD12 36 mm Black Forest Green, a compact timepiece developed in collaboration with British watch enthusiast Russell, known as the MAD Watch Collector.
Limited to 200 pieces, the watch combines a matte green dial with Hanhart’s hardened HD12 steel case and a no-date automatic movement.
The matte Black Forest green dial, which takes its name from Hanhart’s origins in Germany’s Black Forest, provides a sharp contrast for the cathedral-style hands and Arabic numerals, both generously coated with Super-LumiNova C3 X2 GL for low-light legibility.
A central seconds hand and the historic Hanhart logo complete the dial layout.
The 36 mm stainless-steel case measures 10.5 mm thick and 43 mm from lug to lug.
Its proportions are deliberately compact, while the decision to retain a 20 mm lug width, made at Russell’s suggestion, gives the watch a relatively broad stance on the wrist and allows it to accommodate a wide range of straps.
The case combines satin-finished and polished surfaces with a smooth bezel, a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside and a screw-down crown bearing Hanhart’s historic “h” logo. Water resistance is rated to 15 bar (150 metres / 492 feet).
The case is made from Hanhart’s HD12 steel, a hardened stainless-steel material developed to increase resistance to everyday scratches without compromising the corrosion resistance of the underlying steel.
The process begins with a surface-hardening treatment that diffuses carbon into the material, creating a gradual transition between the hardened exterior and softer core.
A transparent PVD hard coating is then applied for additional protection. Hanhart states that the resulting surface hardness can reach up to 1,200 HV, compared with approximately 220 HV for conventional 316L stainless steel.
Inside, the MAD Preventor HD12 is powered by the Sellita SW200-1, here configured as a three-hand movement without a date. The automatic calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), uses 26 jewels and provides a power reserve of at least 38 hours.
It features hacking seconds and is regulated at Hanhart’s manufacture in Gütenbach, with a stated daily rate of 0 to +8 seconds when averaged across six positions. The maximum permitted deviation between individual positions is ten seconds.
The watch is available either on a calfskin strap with Alcantara lining in black, dark brown or light brown, or on a stainless-steel bracelet incorporating the same hardened treatment as the case.
The bracelet uses quick-release spring bars for tool-free removal and a folding clasp with tool-free fine adjustment.
The Hanhart MAD Preventor HD12 36 mm Black Forest Green is limited to 200 pieces. It is priced at €1,140 including 19% VAT on a calfskin strap and €1,340 including 19% VAT on the stainless-steel bracelet. Deliveries are scheduled to begin around the end of October 2026. hanhart.com
