Longines presents the Master Collection Chrono Monopusher in two 41 mm stainless-steel references, bringing the traditional single-pusher chronograph into its contemporary Master Collection.
A pulsometer scale around the dial introduces another historical instrument to the design, while the manually wound movement gives the watch a distinctly traditional mechanical character.
The chronograph is controlled by a single pusher integrated into the crown, which operates the start, stop and reset functions.
This configuration has a direct connection with Longines’ history: in 1911, the brand developed one of its early monopusher wrist chronographs, followed in 1913 by the calibre 13.33Z, one of the first compact chronograph movements designed specifically for the wrist.
The pulsometer scale provides a practical means of measuring heart rate by timing a set number of beats, typically 30, and reading the corresponding pulse directly from the scale.
Originally developed for medical professionals before the arrival of electronic heart-rate monitors, the pulsometer became a characteristic feature of historical chronographs.
The two references share a round stainless-steel case measuring 41 mm in diameter, 12.60 mm in thickness and 48.60 mm from lug to lug.
A concave bezel gives the case a restrained profile, while the sapphire crystal is treated with multi-layer anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water resistance is rated to 3 bar (30 metres / 100 feet).
The silver opaline reference L2.960.4.78.2 features a barleycorn-pattern dial with a pulsometer scale around its perimeter, while the frosted blue version, reference L2.960.4.93.2, uses the same barleycorn pattern in blue.
Both dials have recessed chronograph counters with snail engraving and sandblasted detailing around the outer section.
Ten applied Arabic numerals and matching hands are either rhodium-plated and polished or finished in 5N rose-gold plating, depending on the reference.
The chronograph layout remains deliberately straightforward, with a central 60-second chronograph hand and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, while the small seconds are positioned at 9 o’clock.
Powering both watches is the exclusive Longines column-wheel Calibre L799.5, visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back.
Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and featuring a silicon balance spring, this hand-wound movement provides a power reserve of up to 68 hours.
The column wheel governs the sequential operation of the chronograph functions.
The watches are fitted with alligator leather straps and dedicated triple-folding safety clasps with push-piece opening and micro-adjustment.
The silver opaline reference L2.960.4.78.2 is paired with a brown strap, while the frosted blue reference L2.960.4.93.2 comes with an anthracite strap.
