Cartier unveils a new interpretation of the Santos-Dumont, the watch named after Brazilian pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont (1873–1932), where clean lines meet exquisite jewelry craftsmanship. True to the spirit of the now-iconic model, the Parisian brand retains its signature details, such as the visible screws on the square bezel, the slender Roman numerals, and the blue cabochon adorning the beaded crown, applying them to three new models while infusing them with a distinctly contemporary presence.
One of the versions stands out with a dial in golden obsidian, a volcanic stone from Mexico whose shifting hues make each piece unique. Extremely delicate, this material requires meticulous craftsmanship to reveal its full depth and the play of light that animates its surface with the slightest movement of the wrist.
The bracelet, crafted in yellow gold or platinum depending on the model, extends this focus on textures and fluidity. Composed of hundreds of finely assembled links, it wraps lightly around the wrist, almost like a piece of jewelry. Inspired by the metal mesh designs developed by the brand in the early 20th century, it showcases exceptionally demanding craftsmanship, where each element is polished and then precisely adjusted to achieve a silky suppleness. Powered by the hand-wound Caliber 430 MC housed in a case with perfectly balanced proportions (43.5 x 31.4 mm and 7.3 mm thick), the Santos-Dumont also upholds the technical excellence so dear to Cartier.
