“Watches, Stories, and Gear” is a roundup of our favorite content, watch or otherwise, from around the internet. Here, we support other creators, explore interesting content that inspires us, and put a spotlight on causes we believe in. Oh, and any gear we happen to be digging on this week. We love gear.
Spielberg’s Mysterious Sci-Fi Film
Steven Spielberg has a new, still untitled, original UFO movie coming out next year, and we aren’t talking about it nearly enough. A new sci-fi film from the director of ET, Close Encounters, AI, Minority Report, etc should be a very big deal, and it still might be once people start wrestling with the idea of Spielberg returning to this genre. Very little is known about the movie – the plot has been kept completely under wraps. But it stars Emily Blunt, filmed in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley, was written by David Koepp (a frequent Spielberg collaborator), and this week, the first bit of marketing started to hit. In a handful of cities, large billboards with the June 12 release date, an evocative image, and the words “all will be disclosed” began to appear. We love a mysterious campaign, and the idea that a new, and apparently quite major, Spielberg movie is 6 months away and we know nothing about it is tantalizing.
The Year’s Best in GPS Watches
The watch world is full of little niches, and rabbit holes within rabbit holes. Smart watches are of course a category unto themselves, but within the smart watch lane there are even more clearly defined subcategories. GPS watches, those designed primarily for navigating the outdoors, are one such category, and the folks at Gear Lab have done the work of ranking the very best of 2025 as the year comes to a close. Models from Suunto, Garmin, and more are evaluated. Don’t get lost!
Columbia and Star Wars Team Up for a New Collection
From Popular Mechanics, Columbia Sportswear is returning to a galaxy far, far away with its largest Star Wars collaboration to date: the Return of the Jedi–inspired Endor Collection. The 20-piece lineup that blends outdoor-ready performance gear with cinematic nostalgia and charm. Drawing visual cues from the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, completely evocative of Endor itself, the collection pairs Columbia’s proven technologies with subtle fan-service details including the Rebel insignia and Battle of Endor references. Standout pieces range from rugged trench coats and cargo sets to a reversible jacket and an Ewok fleece for kids. Fronting the campaign is Billie Lourd, who adds emotional weight with a tribute to her mother, Carrie Fisher, connecting the collection to Star Wars’ real-world legacy.
The PlayStation Watches by ANICORN
From Hypebeast, PlayStation and ANICORN are celebrating three decades of gaming with a limited-edition watch collection that leans hard into nostalgia while remaining firmly wearable. Headlining the release is a 300-piece mechanical watch inspired by the original 1994 PlayStation console, complete with a motif inspired by the geometric shapes found on the PlayStation controller, Start and Select-style hands, and thoughtful hardware nods like a power-symbol crown, sapphire crystal, and a Miyota 9039 movement. It’s joined by two additional quartz models that use an oil-filled display to animate the iconic controller symbols as the watch moves on the wrist. Priced from $250 to $780 and launching December 19, 2025 exclusively through ANICORN, the collection feels like a genuine tribute to gaming culture that will surely appeal to many in the cross section of the watch enthusiast/gaming Venn diagram.
