When an imaginary frontier engenders a one-of-a-kind look, the independent brand takes its flagship model to a highly-appealing level.
Speake Marin‘s new Ripples Kármán Line, inspired by the work of physicist Theodore von Kármán (1881-1963), conjures up the symbolic frontier located at an altitude of 80 to 100 km, where the terrestrial atmosphere gives way to space. This idea of transition is echoed in the dial, revamped with a metallic blue-hued translucent sapphire crystal. By playing on effects of depth and opacity, it brings out the Côtes de Genève-adorned base and, as such, creates a subtle gradient color blending the sky’s azure and outer-space black.
The collection’s characteristic waves, exalted here, offer an invigorating scenescape to the Big Ben-type hands and the slender markers. The small seconds off-centered at 1:30, the range’s signature, retains its position and boosts the model’s visual identity. This piece nestles inside a 40.3 mm-diameter, just 6.3 mm-high 904L steel case that’s sturdy and elegantly chic & sporty. Its La City shape, envisioned by designer Stéphane Lacroix-Gachet combines circle and square shrewdly. The ultra-flat SMA06 (2.5 mm) automatic caliber, equipped with a micro-rotor, ensuring great accuracy and performance with its 5 Hz high frequency and 52-hour power reserve, beats at the heart of the Ripples Kármán Line. This movement reveals its meticulous finishes through the sapphire crystal back. This watch comes with an integrated metal bracelet or two alternatives, a gradient-toned blue leather strap and a rubber wraparound, which enhance its contemporary, ethereal style.
