Glashütte Original has released the PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition, a special interpretation of one of its most recognisable models.
Limited to 180 pieces, this edition celebrates 180 years of Glashütte watchmaking, a jubilee first marked earlier this year with the impressive PanoLunarTourbillon featuring a Flying Tourbillon and Eisenerz dial.
Housed in a 40 mm x 12.80 mm case crafted from 950 platinum, the PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition captivates with its deep blue aventurine dial, also known as goldstone.
First developed in the 17th century by Venetian glassmakers in Murano, aventurine is prized for its rich colour and luminous sparkle.
Its shimmering effect comes from delicate particles embedded in the glass, catching and reflecting light with every movement.
The self-intersecting sub-dials for hours and minutes, with small seconds below, are aligned along a vertical axis on the left half of the dial.
Sword-shaped hands filled with Super-LumiNova ensure excellent legibility even in low-light conditions.
On the right, the moon phase display at 2 o’clock visually balances Glashütte Original’s signature Panorama Date at 4 o’clock.
The moon disc, also crafted from aventurine, integrates seamlessly into the dial, while two domed mother-of-pearl inlays depict twin moons rotating across its surface.
Thanks to a fine-toothed gear, the moon phase mechanism delivers remarkable accuracy: once correctly set, it will not require adjustment for the next 122 years, provided the watch runs continuously.
The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the in-house Calibre 90-02, a self-winding movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve.
Its traditional three-quarter plate construction is enhanced by Glashütte stripes, blued screws, and a hand-engraved balance cock with duplex swan-neck fine adjustment. The skeletonised off-centre rotor, decorated with the brand’s double-G logo, incorporates a 21-carat gold oscillating weight.
