Titanium meets BMG in the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin Openworked 39 mm ref. 16204XT.OO.1240XT.01, a lightweight interpretation of the classic skeletonised model.
The tone-on-tone aesthetic extends from the 39 mm x 8.1 mm case to the selfwinding Calibre 7124.
Titanium, used for the case and integrated bracelet with its three-blade folding clasp, ensures lightness on the wrist, while the bezel, caseback and bracelet studs are crafted in BMG (Bulk Metallic Glass).
Developed in the 1960s and used in microelectronics and sporting applications, BMG is an amorphous alloy that achieves glass-like hardness through rapid cooling.
For this model, Audemars Piguet developed its own palladium-based BMG, selected for its high brilliance and strong resistance to wear, corrosion and scratches.
Through its openworked architecture, the rhodium-toned Calibre 7124 reveals its intricate mechanism.
Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the movement provides a minimum power reserve of 57 hours.
The blackened hour markers, applied to the silver-grey-toned inner bezel, along with the signature hands, are crafted from 18-carat white gold and filled with luminescent material to ensure optimal legibility.
Alongside the 39 mm version, the collection also includes the 37 mm Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked ref. 15467BA.OO.1256BA.01, entirely crafted in 18-carat yellow gold.
Its openworked Calibre 3132 features the double balance wheel mechanism introduced by the Manufacture in 2016 to enhance precision and stability.
Beating at 4 Hz, the movement offers a 45-hour power reserve.
Silver-grey luminescent hour markers and hands ensure clear readability, while the sapphire caseback reveals the golden oscillating weight, adding a warm contrast to the monochromatic architecture of the movement.
