The latest interpretation of the Serenade Luna by Glashütte Original features a “Skyline Blue” mother-of-pearl dial whose iridescent surface creates an ever-changing play of light reminiscent of mirrored high-rise facades reflecting passing clouds.
To achieve this effect, with colours shifting from a light silvery blue to a dark, smoky tone, the back of the ultra-thin mother-of-pearl dial is coated with several layers of dark-coloured lacquer.
The refined look of the dial is further enhanced by diamonds and stainless steel, two materials whose cool brilliance contrasts with the subtle shimmer of the mother-of-pearl.
The bezel of the 32.5 mm × 8.90 mm stainless steel case is set with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds.
These are complemented by hand-set diamond indexes on the dial and by small silver stars delicately printed around the moon phase display at 6 o’clock.
The moon disc is crafted from mother-of-pearl, matching the dial. To create depth in the night sky, four circles of blue lacquer are applied to the reverse.
The moon appears through the aperture in the natural white of the material. The edging of the display, together with the slender hands and the settings of the diamond indexes, are crafted from solid white gold.
The Serenade Luna’s moon phase provides a highly precise representation of the lunar cycle, deviating by just one day after 122 years.
It can be adjusted directly via the gem-set crown by pulling it to the first position.
The Calibre 35 automatic movement reflects the rigorous standards of traditional Glashütte watchmaking.
Optimised for its compact dimensions, the redesigned oscillating system incorporates a balance wheel with four regulating screws and a silicon hairspring, improving resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variations.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the movement delivers a power reserve of 60 hours.
Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement also reveals traditional decorative techniques. The Glashütte three-quarter plate is adorned with characteristic stripes, while the edges are carefully bevelled and polished. Additional details include a sunburst finish on the reduction gear and perlage on the fine shell-pattern engraving.
The watch can be paired with a stainless steel bracelet with a double-fold clasp or a Louisiana alligator leather strap in light blue, matching the dial.
The new Glashütte Original Serenade Luna has a suggested retail price of €16,500 with a metal bracelet (ref. 1-35-14-04-12-14) or €15,300 with a leather strap (ref. 1-35-14-04-12-04). glashuette-original.com
