Vintage Bulova

First up this week is a brilliant vintage Bulova from 1964. The 33mm steel case is a classic round style with slim lugs, and it appears unpolished with crisp edges. The silver dial is super clean, with applied steel hour markers. It features Arabic numerals for the even numbers, and batons for the odds, except at 3 o’clock where there is a date window. Nice sword style hands with large lume plots. This one is powered by a 17 jewel automatic Bulova caliber 11ALACD movement that is clean and runs well per the seller. The watch comes on a period-correct (and possibly original) semi-stretch band with a really nice herringbone texture on the sides. A great piece that should end at an affordable price.

Vintage Seiko 5

Here is a wild vintage Seiko 5 with a cool design. This “TV dial” style looks like an old-school TV with the curved rectangular dial and squarish case. The steel case is 37mm wide, but looks smaller since it’s wider than it is long. The case has curved side edges and angled top and bottom edges along with a brushed finish. It is unpolished, but does show a few marks from honest wear. The silver dial is clean, with the ubiquitous Seiko day/date window at 3 o’clock. There is a small recessed crown at 3 as well. The watch comes on the original Milanese mesh bracelet with Seiko signed deployment buckle. There is no picture of the automatic movement, but it runs well per the seller.

Vintage LeGant Chronograph By Zenith For Montgomery Ward

Next up is this beautiful vintage LeGant chronograph. Apparently it was made by Zenith and branded LeGant for the Montgomery Ward department stores back in the 1960s. This example has a steel case that is likely around 36mm and is in nice shape, and has a deeply embossed Zenith logo on the caseback. The dial is black, with three white subdials for that classic and highly sought-after reverse panda look. Dial looks excellent, and the crystal looks to be an original high dome acrylic type. The oversized crown is original and signed with the Zenith logo. The Zenith caliber 146HP manual wind movement looks clean and runs and functions well per the seller. Fantastic piece that should go for a lot less than if this was branded Zenith instead of LeGant!

Vintage Bulova Devil Diver

Here we have a classic vintage Bulova ‘Devil Diver’. Bulova made a plethora of divers back in the 1960s and 1970s with a depth rating of “666 Feet”, leading to the Devil Diver name. This example sometimes has the “Snorkel” name on the dial although this one does not. These came in black and silver dials, this one being the latter. The silver dial has painted lume hour markers and a date window at 3 o’clock. The dial is excellent with a little patina, same with the lume filled dauphine hands. The watch has the original acrylic crystal with an internal date magnifier window. The elapsed time diver’s bezel is in good shape, but missing most of the original black paint in the engraved numbers and hash marks. There is no movement picture but the watch runs well per the seller.

Vintage Movado Datron Sub Sea

Here is another vintage reverse panda chronograph, this time a Movado Datron Sub Sea. The large steel 37mm cushion case looks unpolished, with the original brushed finish and sharp edges. The seller calls this a dial black, but it looks gray to me in the pictures. Not sure if it’s a little faded or just the lighting, but the dial also has some patina that you can clearly see. Nevertheless, it looks pretty cool to me. There are three white sub-dials, and a date window at 12 o’clock, the correct position for the Datron models. The large crown is original and signed with the Movado logo. The watch comes on the original steel bracelet, with the buckle also signed with the Movado logo. Sadly no movement pictures but the watch runs per the seller.

Vintage IWC Dress Watch

Ending this week with a rare vintage IWC Calatrava style dress watch. You rarely see these for sale on eBay, so it was a treat to find this one. The 34mm steel Calatrava style case is in good shape, with classic slim lugs. The white dial has a fairly even, crème colored patina. It gives it a nice mellow look for those that love some patina on their vintage watches. The hour markers are slim arrows, with large steel dauphine hands. The large crown is original and signed with the IWC logo as it should. It’s unfortunate that there are no movement pictures as I’m sure the IWC manual wind caliber 853 movement is a beauty. The watch runs well per the seller. Great opportunity to acquire a vintage IWC with some wabi sabi!
