The Joia collection revisits Baume & Mercier’s long-standing relationship with women’s watchmaking through five 28 mm models.

The range comprises polished stainless steel cases with variations in 4N PVD gold-tone details, diamond settings and bracelet or strap designs.

Combining a compact round case with Roman numeral hour markers and leaf-shaped hands, Joia draws on the Maison’s heritage of jewellery watches while adopting a contemporary design.

Baume & Mercier’s history with women’s timepieces dates back to 1918, when Paul Mercier joined William Baume to establish the Maison. At a time when women were gaining greater independence and taking on new roles in society, the company recognised their growing interest in watches as objects of both function and personal expression.

Its early creations included elaborate jewellery watches, described in the 1920 Davoine General Indicator of Watchmaking as “haute Fantaisie pour Dames”.

This approach continued through subsequent decades, with designs ranging from gold jewellery pieces to cuff watches incorporating mother-of-pearl, onyx, lapis lazuli and turquoise.

The Joia collection draws on this tradition through a 28 mm round case and a combination of polished surfaces, precious details and classical dial elements.

All five models are powered by the quartz Ronda 751 movement, which provides an autonomy of approximately five years.

They are water-resistant to 5 ATM and feature a crown set with a black agate cabochon.

The solid case back is also polished, while the interchangeable straps and bracelets can be removed without tools.
