Glashütte Original takes inspiration from Art Nouveau and Art Deco for two new Senator Aventurine models: the Art Nouveau Green in red gold and the Art Déco Blue in platinum.
The first pairs the warmth of a precious red gold case with a deep green dial, while the second is crafted from cool platinum and dressed in an icy blue shade.
Both creations reveal a remarkable sense of depth and luminosity, offering a fresh, contemporary interpretation of the aesthetic codes that defined these two historic movements.
The dawn of the 20th century was marked by unprecedented technological progress, as industrialization, electricity, and modern transportation rapidly transformed daily life. Flourishing between 1890 and 1910, Art Nouveau responded with an artistic return to nature, celebrating organic forms and flowing contours.
By contrast, the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s captured the speed and dynamism of a new era through sharp geometric forms and pronounced symmetry. This period of artistic evolution coincided with a pivotal turning point in Glashütte, where traditional pocket watch traditions gave way to modern wristwatches that embodied the spirit of the age.
Today, these two new Senator models honor that shared history: green evoking Nouveau’s bond with nature, and blue capturing Deco’s enduring spirit of progress.
Glashütte Original channels these artistic influences through the medium of aventurine glass, a material originally created in 17th-century Murano, Venice, when glassmakers added metal oxides to molten glass to form glistening particles.
Derived from the Italian “a ventura,” meaning “by chance,” the random distribution of these metallic inclusions ensures that no two dials are identical.
A black lacquer coating applied to the reverse of each thin disc adds striking optical depth to the shimmering surface.
Housed in balanced 40 mm cases measuring 10.2 mm in height, both watches are driven by the automatic in-house Calibre 36-16.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this movement delivers a 100-hour power reserve via a single mainspring barrel and incorporates an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring.
As part of Glashütte Original’s Atelier commissions, each watch is assembled in its entirety by a single master watchmaker.
Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can admire traditional Saxon finishing touches, including Glashütte stripe decoration on the three-quarter plate, a hand-engraved balance cock, sunburst finishing on the winding wheels, and a skeletonised rotor featuring the brand’s double-G logo with a 21-carat gold oscillating weight. Water-resistance is rated at 50 metres / 165 feet.
