Oris returns to its collaboration with Swiss leather company Cervo Volante for a burgundy special edition of the Big Crown Pointer Date.
The watch pairs a stainless steel case and burgundy dial with a sustainable brown strap made from Cervo Volante deer leather, echoing the autumn colours of the Waldenburg Valley surrounding Oris’s Hölstein headquarters.
Founded in 2017 by two entrepreneurs with backgrounds in biotech and wildlife management, Cervo Volante crafts footwear and accessories from deer leather sourced via Switzerland’s population management programmes, using skins that would otherwise be discarded. The leather is naturally tanned in one of Switzerland’s last remaining vegetable tanneries, retaining natural imperfections as part of its character.
The collaboration is centred on the Big Crown Pointer Date, a model that has been part of the Oris collection since 1938. The watch retains the defining elements of the design, including the fluted bezel, oversized crown and central pointer date hand, while adopting a burgundy dial for this edition.
The typical round case with fluted bezel measures 40 mm in diameter, 48.20 mm from lug to lug and 12.20 mm thick. It is constructed from multiple pieces and topped by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside.
The burgundy dial has printed indices and numbers, with Super-LumiNova applied to the indices, numbers and hands.
The date is indicated by a central pointer hand, preserving one of the characteristic features of the Big Crown Pointer Date.
A screwed stainless steel case back with a see-through mineral glass aperture provides a view of the movement, while a stainless steel screw-in security crown contributes to the water resistance of 5 bar (50 metres / 165 feet).
Powering the watch is Oris Calibre 754, an automatic movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, and providing a power reserve of 41 hours. It features central hours, minutes and seconds, a pointer date with instantaneous date, and stop-second function.
The watch is fitted with a brown Cervo Volante strap and equipped with a quick strap change system. Each watch is also supplied with a travel pouch made from the same Cervo Volante sustainable deer leather.
