If you live in the United States of America, and you watch the news even occasionally, you may have heard the rumor that this nation is celebrating a rather significant birthday in 2026. This coming July 4 will mark 250 years for the U.S.A. as an independent country, and as one would expect, the milestone has ushered in a bonanza of collectible limited editions in all kinds of product categories, from makers both American and otherwise. The latest brand in the latter category to launch a special edition for the USA’s semiquincentennial (yes, look it up) is Swiss watchmaker Breitling, which has announced the release of two “America250” timepieces from its military-aviation-inspired Avenger collection. Here’s what you need to know about the Avenger America250 Limited Editions.

Both watches, as one might probably expect, feature a distinctive red-white-and-blue color palette, along with commemorative engravings and the official “America250” logo. The United States is Breitling’s largest market worldwide, and we’ve already seen the brand launch several special initiatives and releases over the past few years with that market in mind, most notably the recent partnership with “America’s Game,” the National Football League, to produce specially branded watches for each NFL team. According to Breitling USA president Thierry Prissert, the new Avenger models “honor America’s 250th anniversary while reflecting the spirit of freedom, adventure, and innovation that continues to shape the nation.” Appropriately, both special editions will be available exclusively in the U.S.A.

One of the watches, the Breitling Avenger Automatic 42 America250, is limited to 250 pieces, pairing a blue dial with a stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter and 12.15mm thick. The dial’s white and red details include the red tip of the central seconds hand and the white frame around the date window at 3 o’clock. Characteristic of the Avenger series, the case has a unidirectional, ratcheted bezel for countdowns and other mission-timing operations and a screw-locked crown securing a water resistance of 300 meters.

The solid steel caseback features an engraving of the Liberty Bell and its famous inscription from the Biblical book of Leviticus: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” Rounding out the caseback’s engravings are the America250 logo, the notation “One of 250,” and a reference to the nation’s birthday, “July 4, 1776.” Hidden beneath the caseback is the automatic Breitling Caliber 17, built on either an ETA or Sellita base movement, possessing a power reserve of around 38 hours and boasting a COSC chronometer certification. The watch is delivered on a military-style blue calfskin strap with red contrast stitching, which fastens to the wrist with a steel folding clasp.

Even more limited in production (just 50 pieces) is the Avenger B01 Chronograph 42 Night Mission America 250, whose 42mm case, including its ratcheting bezel, are forged in black ceramic, the calling card of the “Night Mission” subfamily of pilot’s chronographs within the Avenger collection. The watch’s blue dial hosts three contrasting white subdials and red details, including the tip of the central chronograph seconds hand and the hands on both the chronograph totalizers (30 minutes at 3 o’clock and 12 hours at 6 o’clock). The running seconds are in the 9 o’clock subdial and the date appears within the 6 o’clock subdial.

The caseback of the chronograph features a clear sapphire window framed by a titanium ring; the former is etched with the America250 logo while the latter is engraved with the 50 stars of the U.S. flag and the notation “One of 50.” Behind that exhibition window beats Breitling’s in-house automatic Caliber B01, prized for its 70-hour power reserve and its integrated chronograph function driven by a column wheel and a vertical clutch. The movement is not only COSC-certified but carries a five-year warranty. Like its three-handed sibling, the watch has a water resistance of 300 meters, secured by a screw-locked crown, and comes on a rugged, blue calfskin leather strap with red stitching.

The Breitling Avenger America250 limited editions are available now, from Breitling boutiques and authorized retailers in the United States and on Breitling.com. The Avenger Automatic 42 (Ref. A173281B1C1X1, 250 pieces) is priced at $5,100, while the Avenger B01 Chronograph 42 Night Mission (Ref. SB01484A1C1X1, 50 pieces) retails for $9,700.
